Falling Leaves

What’s Included:

  • 4 pages of music leaves

Set Up:

  • Cut out each individual leaf and laminate

How it Works:

A couple different ways to play this game!

  1. Playing in the Leaves: Gather all the leaves into one pile. Have your student scoop them up and toss! Some may land upside down and others right side up. The ones that land face up can be used to create an original melody. If you are working on keys/chord progressions, ask your student what notes need to be added in order to complete the melody.

  2. Leaf Jig: Have your student use scotch tape to stick the leaves on top of their clothes. Play a song of your student’s choosing to dance around to (some Fall Favorites provided below). Have them get as wiggly as they can! When the music stops, freeze! The leaves that fell off during the wiggle dance can be used to create an original melody. If you are working on keys/chord progressions, ask your student what notes need to be added in order to complete the melody.

Witches’ Eye of “Note”

What’s Included:

  • 8 paged packet- 4 pages of notation, 4 pages note names

Set Up:

  1. Cut out each individual card

  2. Tape the notation cards to the note name cards- make sure the note name is the correct answer!

  3. Laminate adhered cars

  4. Cut out cards

  5. Grab a pot (or a drum will do) and get brewing!

How it Works:

Classic flash cards, but magical! Draw the cards one at a time, showing your student the side with notation only. If your student correctly identifies the note, they are now able to see what ingredient of their witch’s brew they acquired. To add a little extra whimsy, have you student determine the magical properties of each ingredient, and describe how it will influence the brew over all. Then toss it in the pot! See how many cards your student can guess correctly in a certain amount of time (set a time based on your student’s level). When the time is up, mix all the ingredients together- what brew did your student cook up? What magic will it provide?
