What’s Included:
Three dice cutouts: one with note names, one with staff notation, one blank!
Four measure of a blank grand staff
Set Up:
Print out and cut out each page
Fold every flap and die line
Use tape or glue to fasten the flaps to the inside of the dice walls
How it Works:
Have your student create their own melodies by rolling both the note name and staff notation dice. Start by rolling the notation die to first get your time signature (3/4 or 4/4). Then have them roll as many times as needed to fill four measures of a melody. It can be helpful to roll out all of the rhythmic symbols first, write them down, then arrange as needed. Once your student has their rhythm, they can roll out the note names and match them to whatever rhythm symbol in their melody as they’d like. Once their melody is complete, have them play it on their instrument and see what it sounds like!
Expansion Idea:
Use the blank die to write in your own rhythms, note names (maybe add accidentals), or any other notation you’d like your musician to work on!
