What’s Included:
Riffin’ Road Board Game
Bonus blank board game (see expansion idea)
Set Up:
Print out and laminate
Find a die and game pieces (not included)
How it Works:
Take turns rolling the die to see which space you land on. Each space’s color indicates a different category. Blue= play the indicated rhythm; Green= identify the notes; Yellow= create your own song; and Purple= play the indicated scale. The first one to the finish line wins!
Expansion Idea:
Use a dry erase marker to write in your own notes, rhythms, and scales on the blank board game to customize the challenges to your individual students!
What theory concepts does this support?
Rhythm: sixteenth notes, triplets, eighth notes, quarter notes
Note identification: ledger lines
Scales: major, minor, pentatonic
Closing Thoughts:
This game is ideal for students who have moved beyond beginner levels for rhythm, notation, and scales, but a fun way to gently practice some of the foundations of the newer concepts. Most of the Create Your Own Melody squares are notes from the pentatonic scale, which could be a good opportunity to touch on this topic if you have not already!
