What’s Included:
24 cards with various musical terms/”taboo” descriptors.
8 decal backs of cards
Set Up:
Print out pdf (print 3 pages of decal cards so you have enough backs of cards) and cut out cards
Place one playing card and one decal card back to back
Laminate cards, and cut them out
Place stack of cards in the center
How it Works:
If you’ve played taboo before, you know the objective of this game is to get your opponent to guess the mystery word on the top of each card. The tricky part? You can’t use the taboo words in your description!
In our version, each card has a picture of a musical symbol along with its name, along with three “taboo” words. The player must get their opponent to guess the musical term without using any of the taboo words (or any words in the term itself)! There are two of each term: one on a red card and one on a green card. Red cards are slightly trickier in that the taboo words may be harder to not use. These are worth 4 points, while green cards are worth two points. Whoever has the most points at the end wins!
What theory concepts does this support?
Identifying and ability to describe different musical terms/symbols!
Adaptation:
Want to switch things around? Have the player use ONLY the taboo words, and see if the opponent can guess the mystery word from those three words alone!
